Early Registration Pricing for the IBD Summit Extended Through Wednesday, April 4

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – March 30, 2012 The inaugural IBD Summit, hosted by Interbike and Sea Otter Classic, is staged and ready to launch on April 17 with 50 retailers from 40+ unique stores registered and expected to attend the event. All speakers and education sessions are finalized and ready to inform, inspire and educate dealers on a wide range of vital business topics. Due to a late surge of interest, early registration pricing has been extended through Wednesday, April 4, to accommodate as many retailers as possible.

“We’re thrilled with the quality of the shops that have signed up,” said Pat Hus, Interbike’s Managing Director. “While we’d hoped to get somewhere closer to 75 shops for our first year, we have a stellar list of attendees that includes many of the best retailers in the country. They’re in for a great conference.”

Retailers who have signed up for the IBD Summit have indicated that the high level education and interaction with other successful retailers is driving their interest.

"It took me a while to realize the impact this event could have, but I woke up one morning and the clouds cleared from my mind and I knew that I should do this,” commented Tom Henry of Landry’s Bicycles in the Boston area. “The Summit really does sound first-rate and exciting."

“This year’s event will be intimate and allow for some great interaction among sponsors, Bicycle Leadership Conference (BLC) attendees and dealers, which was our goal when we set out on this mission,” continued Hus. “We’re expecting a small flurry of last minute registrants to the event and think we will actually get closer to our goal than we are right now.”

On tap for IBD Summit attendees is a curriculum stacked with leading experts on consumer trends, the economy, marketing, customer service, succession strategy and several panels of leading retailers and category innovators. The level of education being offered is unprecedented in the bicycle industry and will address graduate-level business needs of top retailers and inspire them to even greater levels of success. Key speakers include noted trendspotter, Marian Salzman; Nielsen VP of consumer research, Todd Hale; and PUBLIC Bikes founder Rob Forbes.

In addition to the educational curriculum and networking opportunities, attendees at the IBD Summit will be treated to exclusive tours of the factory and design center of two of the industry’s leading innovators. Easton-Bell sports will lead attendees on a tour of their Helmet Design Center in Scotts Valley where their Easton, Bell, Giro and Blackburn brands are imagined, designed and tested. Fox Racing Shox will invite attending retailers to visit their factory in Watsonville where the company’s high-end performance suspension systems are built. Both companies will also facilitate retailers getting to and from the tours and Monterey by sponsoring complementary airport shuttles to and from San Jose Airport.

Key sponsors of the event promoting the personal growth of retailers include Bikes Belong, NBDA, Fox Racing, Raleigh Bicycles, Specialized, and Easton-Bell Sports.

Interbike Adds World Champion Leigh Donovan to Team

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - February 15, 2012 - Interbike, organizers of the largest cycling trade show and outdoor demo event in North America, announces the addition of Leigh Donovan to its team as an account executive. Donovan, a former professional world champion downhill racer and small business owner, will bring her competitive spirit, experience in retail and extensive network of relationships in the bicycle industry to the trade show’s sales team.

“Bicycles have given me almost everything that I’ve attained in my life – I’m at home with bikes,” commented Donovan. “I’m really excited to start working with and serving so many of the great suppliers in our industry here with Interbike. And as a retail store owner for 8 years, I’ve also walked the other side of the aisles and understand the needs of buyers attending the show.”

Leigh will be responsible for handling accounts on the West Coast and New England and will report to sales manager Andria Klinger.

“Leigh’s passion for bikes and her industry connections will be great additions to our team and a real asset to Interbike exhibitors,” remarked Klinger. “So much of what we do here is about relationship building and Leigh’s knowledge of the industry and her friendships gained from years on the pro circuit will be a perfect fit.”

Leigh grew up in Southern California and began racing professionally in 1982. She is a 9-time US national downhill champion and became downhill world champion in Germany in 1995. After retiring from professional racing in 2001, she co-owned and managed a successful retail apparel store for eight years, followed by time raising a family. Feeling the urge to race again, she mounted a comeback in 2010 that resulted in an 8th place at the world championships – the highest placing by an American female downhiller that year.

Leigh can be reached at leigh.donovan@nielsen.com or +1-949-226-5758.

Interbike 2012 will return to Las Vegas with the OutDoor Demo on September 17-18 in Boulder City, Nevada, followed by the Interbike Expo, September 19-21 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas. For more information about the show, visit www.interbike.com.

Interbike and Sea Otter Partner to Launch the IBD Summit for Bicycle Retailers

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – December 19, 2011 – Interbike and the Sea Otter Classic, the largest bicycle trade event and the largest consumer cycling exposition in North America, respectively, announce the creation of the IBD Summit, to be held April 17-19, 2012, in Monterey, California. The inaugural event will be an educational and networking event for top retailers and will feature interaction with suppliers attending the Bicycle Leadership Conference (BLC), held concurrently in Monterey.

This first-of-its-kind retail-specific summit will bring together progressive bicycle retailers to learn from expert presenters, key suppliers and their retail peers on how to take their successful businesses to the next level. Retailers will benefit from an advanced level of education that builds upon the very popular education series at the Interbike Expo in September.

“We’ve seen real growth in business savvy by retailers in recent years, and we’ve felt a demand for more graduate level education from the top retailers. The IBD Summit will provide that,” said Pat Hus, Interbike’s managing director. “In addition, by holding the IBD Summit at the same time and across town from the BLC, we can bring retailers and suppliers together for some meaningful early season interaction, networking and product previews.”

“At our stores we advise our customers to ‘invest in yourself’ when buying a bike,” said Matt Ford, owner of Rock N Road in Orange County, Calif. “The IBD Summit is a welcome opportunity for me to invest in myself and my business. I plan to come away making better business decisions and I look forward to learning how my peers from across the country are dealing with the same challenges that I face.”

"In Helen’s Cycles 75 years in business, we've been witness to an ever changing market," said Jay Wolff, owner of Helen's Cycles in Santa Monica, Calif. "The bike industry has evolved so much and consumers demand and expect increasing levels of perfection and innovation. The IBD summit will provide an excellent venue to facilitate retailers and vendors alike to face these challenges and give us opportunities to learn from each other, help grow our business and in a broader sense, the bike industry as a whole."

The organizers will convene top experts in their fields to address advanced topics of interest to successful retailers who have already mastered the basics of running a successful business. One of the keynote speakers will be renowned trend-spotter Marian Salzman on the topic of deciphering consumer trends and their impact on the bicycle industry. Salzman recently spoke at the Outdoor Retailer show in August and addressed similar concerns with the outdoor industry.

The inaugural IBD Summit will be held at the Portola Hotel & Resort in downtown Monterey. In addition to educational sessions, attendees will have opportunities to network with their peers and suppliers on scenic coastal bicycle rides and at a joint IBD-BLC dinner at the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and take in the largest consumer bicycle festival and expo at the Sea Otter Classic.

“Sea Otter has become an important event for brands to launch new products to the market and one of the largest celebrations of cycling in the world,” remarked Frank Yohannan, president of the Sea Otter Classic. “We’re excited to partner with Interbike to invite retailers to take advantage of this important gathering, the superior education and to enjoy all that Monterey and Sea Otter have to offer.”

While focused on educating retailers, the IBD Summit will also give retailers the opportunity to get an early peak at 2013 products from sponsoring suppliers. During scheduled cocktail reception and walking dinner times, attendees will be able to visit with sponsoring suppliers in meeting rooms. Retailers will be able to give important feedback to the assembled manufacturers and valuable early product knowledge and what they can expect to see in their stores in the future.

“When Interbike presented the IBD Summit concept to us, we immediately committed our participation,” said Steve McCallion of Chrome Industries. “Sea Otter is a great platform for the Summit to bring high-level retailers and suppliers together to discuss industry, product and consumer trends."

Interested retailers and suppliers can learn more about the conference at www.theibdsummit.com. Manufacturers can also contact Interbike’s sales manager, Andria Klinger at andria.klinger@nielsen.com or +1-949-226-5745.

Triathlon America Transitions to Interbike with Exclusive Agreement

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – December 14, 2011 – Interbike and Triathlon America today announced an exclusive partnership agreement between the two entities that will considerably expand their joint efforts to promote the multisport industry. Under the terms of this new agreement, Interbike will create a significant new Triathlon Neighborhood at the 2012 tradeshow in September and in exchange it be designated the official triathlon trade event by the industry association.

The newly designated 10,000 square foot area will host triathlon-specific exhibitor booths, education from category experts and networking areas for retailers, brands and the media to learn about Triathlon America and its mission to support the industry.

"Triathlon's ties to the bike industry and Interbike are strong and deep," said Jack Caress, president of Triathlon America. "Interbike continues to be a vital part of the annual business cycle for so many of triathlon's brands and retailers, that we made the decision to transition to Interbike after testing the waters elsewhere in our first year. We're excited to make up for lost time and really invest in the triathlon segment of the industry with Interbike moving forward."

Triathlon America was founded in 2010 by a coalition of multisport companies to leverage the knowledge, talent and resources of triathlon industry leaders to the benefit of the sport. They seek to achieve their mission by increasing and retaining advocates of triathlon and by fostering a positive image of the sport.

"Last year was the best Interbike in ten years," said Dan Empfield, publisher of Slowtwitch.com and founder member of Triathlon America. "The Interbike team continues to build and evolve the show to satisfy the needs of the industry and they recognize the importance of triathlon and that the sport deserves the attention and stature given to other categories in the business of cycling. That's why Triathlon America chose to enter into this agreement."

The new Triathlon Pavilion will be centrally located on the main upper level of the show and will exhibit and community space. The pavilion will build on 2011's "Tri Zone" that featured triathlon product displays and a presentation space. Multisport experts, including Empfield, and Neil Hailstone, of Quality Bicycle Products, enlightened standing room-only crowds of retailers over two days of the show.

"As a triathlon-focused retailer, Interbike is such an important part of our year on so many levels - from product knowledge and trend-spotting, to reinforcing relationships with our suppliers," stated Skip McDowell, owner of leading retailer Nytro Multisport. "As a member of Triathlon America, I see no better organization to partner with to help us achieve our goals as a sport and as an industry."

"Triathlon continues to grow as a sport and is an increasingly important segment for the bicycle industry," said Pat Hus, Interbike's managing director. "We're excited to partner with Triathlon America and take a big leap forward in providing tri-focused companies and retailers with a better platform to conduct business at Interbike and to help them to achieve their goals in promoting the sport and industry."

Brisk Buying, New Features Power 2011 Interbike

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - Sept. 27, 2011 - Interbike OutDoor Demo and International Bicycle Expo celebrated 30 years of serving the cycling industry in Las Vegas the week of September 12, with a show described as "vibrant," "reinvigorated," and "productive." This year's edition of the annual trade show provided an improved experience for attendees and exhibitors, and blended business value and cycling culture during the five-day event.

Pulling input from multiple advisory panels created over the past year and extensive research commissioned by Interbike, the 2011 edition of the show featured considerable investment in new features, events and partnerships.

"The show went beyond expectations and reflects a tremendously strong marketplace," said Interbike Managing Director Pat Hus. "There's a new flavor to Interbike and people sense that. There was an enthusiasm and upbeat attitude at the show and orders were being written. Beyond that, successful events like the industry party and Cross Vegas and packed seminars show that people come here not only for product and sales, but also to garner education and network and just generally celebrate cycling."

More than 23,000 total attendees and 1,200-plus exhibiting brands got down to business in the Sands Expo and Convention Center at this year's show and took advantage of Interbike's new features, including Circulus -- a mini-velodrome on the show floor -- LaunchPad product showcase area, the Urban Yard and Tri Zone.

"After a year away, the response to our product launches and the excitement and traffic in our booths were all very strong," said Bernie Doering, Easton-Bell Sports' senior vice-president of global sales. "By being at the show, our preseason bookings are coming in strong, and it was a great opportunity to reconnect with our dealers and reps as well as our colleagues in the cycling community. We missed something by not being at Interbike last year, but we're back and looking forward to continuing the momentum through the 2012 selling season."

"This year's Interbike show had a really cool vibe; it felt revitalized and reinvigorated," said David Zimberoff, Global Marketing Director for SRAM. "The show continues to offer a great platform for our brands to engage retailers from across the country in an environment that's both entertaining as well as educational."

For entertainment, Interbike brought back the industry party to celebrate 30 years of gathering the industry together and honor the famed 7-Eleven racing team's identical anniversary. The night after packing a Las Vegas hotspot for the party, thousands of fans headed to Cross Vegas to take in one of the country's best cyclocross events.

Inside the show, a new partnership with ARTCRANK brought unique cycling-inspired poster art to the Interbike floor, giving attendees a chance to view - and purchase - art from the popular traveling exhibition. Educational seminars on topics from suspension fork technology to retail tips were consistently crowded as industry insiders took up expanded opportunities from Interbike University, the National Bicycle Dealers Association and show exhibitors.

"We had consistently good attendance at our seminars, and by the time the show was over, we reached about 1,800 people," said Fred Clements, executive director of the NBDA. "We see a fair number of retailers each year who are dedicated to the seminars and the educational opportunities are a big part of why they come to Interbike."

The retailer traffic at Interbike represented many of the best, most influential dealers in the country, with 86 percent of Bicycle Retailer and Industry News' 5-star dealers in attendance and 70 percent of the BRAIN Top 100 retailers.

"This was one of the most productive show's we've ever had. If you come into Interbike with a focused approach for what you want to accomplish, there's really nothing like it," said Tom Henry, general manager at Landry's Bicycles in Boston, a perennial Top 100 and 5-Star retailer. "The biggest thing for me is what I call the 'Beehive.' It's the one time each year when everyone is in one place and everybody you talk to has talked to 12 people who have talked to 12 people and so on. It's a moment when you feel like you're hearing the whole beehive bit by bit. I wouldn't want to miss that and it only happens at Interbike."

Preliminary attendance numbers for Interbike 2011 show nearly 4,000 unique stores represented at the show and the total number of buyers at more than 11,000. International buyer attendance from outside the United States was more than 1,300.

Members of the media were looking to tune into the chatter as well, with more than 550 journalists attending Interbike from all corners of the globe. And cycling publications weren't alone in their interest in new products: journalists from outlets such as Consumer Reports, Outside Magazine, ESPN, Wired Magazine, Mashable.com, The Huffington Post, Playboy and MSNBC came to Las Vegas to see the latest cycling gear.

Interbike kicked off with two days of testing at the Interbike Outdoor Demo, Sept. 12-13, at Bootleg Canyon outside Las Vegas, where a new "Oasis" area provided seating, food options and complimentary ice cream and beer to riders demoing the latest mounts.

Despite unseasonable thunderstorms during the second morning of the event, reports from the more than 200 exhibiting brands showed a higher frequency of demo bikes being checked out than last year.

"We were especially pleased with the number of repeat testers we saw in and out of the booth," said Brandon Buth, Trek Bicycles' assistant brand manager. "No 'one and done' here. People kept coming back for more."

For the second year the Health+Fitness Business trade show was held in conjunction with Interbike, occupying some of the show's street-level floor space. A full post-show wrap-up of the HFB show will be available soon.

To view InterbikeTV and official show photos, visit www.interbike.com/mediacoverage.

Interbike 2012 will return to Las Vegas with the OutDoor Demo on September 17-18 in Boulder City, Nevada, followed by the Interbike Expo, September 19-21 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas. For more information about the show, go to www.interbike.com.

LAS VEGAS - September 15, 2011 - Interbike, the largest bicycle trade event in North America, will partner next year with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) to bring more bicycle industry participation, in the form of sponsorship and exhibition opportunities, to the RTC 2012 Viva Bike Vegas Gran Fondo,

Interbike attracts 1,200 cycling brands, representatives from 4,000 bicycle retail stores and approximately 24,000 total industry attendees to Las Vegas annually. "Cyclists from across the country and around the world come to Las Vegas every year to ride in the RTC Viva Bike Vegas," said Jacob Snow, RTC general manager. "We are proud to partner with Interbike, the nation's premier bicycle trade event, in showcasing our cycling-friendly city and inviting Interbike exhibitors and attendees to join us for our fifth annual event."

Snow added that the RTC will soon be recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Business, the first such designation in Nevada at any level, for its efforts to encourage a more bicycle friendly atmosphere. "The RTC has been committed to promoting cycling in Las Vegas, and this event will offer another opportunity for Interbike exhibitors and sponsors to reach even more domestic and international consumers who love cycling in Las Vegas and come here every year for our marquee event."

In 2012, all riders will again have the unique opportunity to bike the bright lights of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip with a police escort. RTC 2012 Viva Bike Vegas Gran Fondo will feature three spectacular routes -- 103, 60 and 17-mile courses -- for cyclists of all skill levels taking riders from the Las Vegas Strip to the vistas of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the scenic trails near Lake Mead National Park.

"By partnering with the RTC's Viva Bike Vegas Gran Fondo, we can provide the industry with a perfect culmination to Interbike and provide another example on how Las Vegas is embracing cycling. The reality is that the local bike culture goes well beyond the general perception of the Vegas strip, and RTC's event, along with Interbike, Ironman and CrossVegas, are testaments to how the city is determined to increase cycling participation."

2011 Interbike Opens with Strong Attendance and Upgraded Amenities at OutDoor Demo

LAS VEGAS - September 13, 2011 - The 2011 Interbike OutDoor Demo kicked off the continent's largest gathering of cycling industry insiders on Monday with a day of riding in Bootleg Canyon near Las Vegas.

"The first day of OutDoor Demo has been marked by A-list retailers testing product from over 200 brands. This provides retailers from all over the world with a epic venue to test and learn more about the products that will fuel their sales in the year to come," said Interbike Managing Director Pat Hus. "We're getting some serious business done and having a lot of fun."

OutDoor Demo continues today, giving attendees the chance to ride the latest bikes on the scenic roads and trails near Lake Mead.

"We do our buying really early, so OutDoor Demo is an opportunity to ride what we've already bought and get more familiar with the product," said REI's Mark Harding. "Plus, we see product we use to fill in later if we missed it initially."

OutDoor Demo also gives exhibitors a platform to meet with new and existing dealers to show off their product and get the pulse of the industry.

"OutDoor Demo is the event that allows us to tie up any loose ends with our top dealers and show our very best to new dealers," said Andrew Juskaitis, global product marketing manager at Giant. "OutDoor Demo is also a great barometer to gauge how and where our competitors are allocating marketing dollars. Everyone's got more bikes and a more professional presence then ever before. It's a big deal."

New at the event for 2011 is the Strava OutDoor Demo Challenge, a friendly competition over the area's most popular trails using the company's social ride tracking software to crown industry champs in multiple categories. Another new feature for this year is the Oasis at OutDoor Demo - a shaded and misted area with food vendors, free ice cream, beer and plenty of seating.

"We've been loving the interest in our newest road products. OutDoor Demo gives us the invaluable opportunity to offer retailers an equally impressive road and mountain bike demo experience," said Alex Bell, USA marketing manager at Specialized. "Getting to spend time on the bikes gets the retailers excited about everything the bikes can do. Heading into the show, that's where we finish the rest of the conversation."

On Wednesday, Interbike heads inside to the Sands Expo for three days of new products, educational opportunities and events. A searchable list of all events can be found here.

Photos from the first day of OutDoor Demo can be found at www.flickr.com/interbike. Free shuttles run all day from the Sands to the OutDoor Demo in Boulder City.

'Congressional Call-In' to be Held at Interbike

LAS VEGAS - September 12, 2011 - Bikes Belong Coalition (BBC), League of American Bicyclists and Interbike are orchestrating a "Congressional Call-In" campaign at the 2011 Interbike International Bicycle Expo in Las Vegas, September 14-16, to push for continuing federal investment in bicycle infrastructure.

Congress is currently considering another extension of the multi-year Federal Transportation bill, which provides crucial funding for bicycle-related projects. The current extension expires on September 30, and needs the industry's support to sustain it.

The BBC's booth (L28) at Interbike will be the site of the Congressional Hotline, a red phone on which attendees can use to call their U.S. Senators and convey to them how federal spending on bicycle-related projects positively affects their businesses, their local economics and the health of their customers.

"The Federal investment in bicycling is under attack in Congress," said Tim Blumenthal, president of Bikes Belong. "We're asking bike business leaders to take five minutes out of their busy Interbike schedules to make two urgent phone calls to their state's U.S. Senators. This timely campaign will help build more bike paths, lanes, trails, and safe routes to school. These investments will continue to increase bicycling participation and grow bike sales."

Last year federal investment in bicycling supported 3,000 projects in all 50 states, and helped make four billion annual U.S. bike trips safer and easier. About 1.5 percent of transportation dollars were spent to support the 12 percent of U.S. trips made by bike or on foot. Some members of Congress want to end this and reallocate the money to highway construction where it would pay for no more than 10 miles of multi-lane highway in a single city.

BBC staff will be in the booth to provide phone numbers of all the U.S. Senators, as well as concise talking points. The League of American Bicyclists, Alliance for Biking and Walking, IMBA and other America Bikes Coalition member organizations will provide additional support.

"Interbike is the industry's gathering place," said Pat Hus, Interbike's managing director. "Imagine the impact of 24,000 people all calling their senators during the three days of the show. It would be huge. So, we encourage everyone at Interbike to get to the Bikes Belong booth to make a couple calls."

Unexpected Roadwork Causes New Start Location for Interbike Tour de Lake Mead

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – Sept. 9, 2011 – Riders on Interbike’s annual Tour de Lake Mead event will ride a slightly different route this year, which uses part of the new River Mountain Loop Trail.

The usual ride route along Highway 93 is unavailable due to unexpected road construction, but the newly built 12-foot-wide trail will provide a scenic – and traffic-free – alternative to Lake Mead.

The ride will leave at 8 a.m. sharp from the downhill shuttle pickup area, which is just up the paved trail from the center of the OutDoor Demo expo area in Bootleg Canyon. Free shuttles from the Sands Expo to the Demo area start at 6:30 a.m. Prior to the ride in the start area a light breakfast will be provided by Bike MS.

The Tour de Lake Mead is one of the rides in the Strava OutDoor Demo Challenge, which OutDoor Demo attendees who download and use Strava on their iPhone, Android phone, or track their activity using a Garmin device, will be able to upload their rides to Strava.com throughout the event, see where they stack up and compete against their industry counterparts to earn prizes, furnished by Strava. To find out how to participate in the Strava Outdoor Demo Challenge, go to www.strava.com/DemoChallenge.

The 24-mile out-and-back ride takes participants through the Lake Mead National Recreation Area outside of Boulder City, Nev. and back to the OutDoor Demo.

Interbike Adds 'Friendly' Competition with Strava OutDoor Demo Challenge

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - August 31, 2011 - Last week Interbike announced it has a new mobile app to help attendees interact with the industry during its September trade show. This week, in partnership with Strava, Interbike is adding a little friendly competition to its OutDoor Demo event with the Strava OutDoor Demo Challenge. Any rider can visit Strava.com to create a free account that will allow them to upload rides and track performance. Smartphone owners can also download the free Strava app for iPhone and Android devices.

Strava, an online app for avid cyclists to track their rides, compare their performances with friends and compete online, has ridden and mapped the well known trails in Bootleg Canyon and the Tour de Lake Mead course.

Of these popular trails, four segments have been identified as special sections on Strava.com. OutDoor Demo attendees who download and use Strava on their iPhone, Android phone, or track their activity using a Garmin device, will be able to upload their rides to Strava.com throughout the event, see where they stack up and compete against their industry counterparts to earn prizes, furnished by Strava.

"Strava has been creating a sense of camaraderie and upping the game for cyclists all over the world, so we're looking forward to showing the bike industry and its influencers the power and capabilities of 'social fitness' first hand," said Strava CEO Michael Horvath.

Outdoor Demo participants can swing by the Strava Ride Upload Area, near OutDoor Demo registration, to view the Challenge segments, see more details of their performance and check the real-time leaderboards.

"Working with Strava adds another great interactive element to OutDoor Demo," said Pat Hus, Interbike managing director. "Besides creating some bragging rights opportunities for attendees, Strava is a great tool for sharing and spreading cycling's fitness message. We're looking forward to showcasing it at the show."

To find out how to participate in the Strava Outdoor Demo Challenge, go to www.strava.com/DemoChallenge.
